A commissioned work of this year’s “No Limits” Pilot Creative Programme, The Story of Motion by dance artist Yao Wei is an inclusive dance project designed for people with visual impairment. In collaboration with local community centres, the project aims to encourage individuals with disabilities to engage in creative movement and artistic expression.
Launched in January 2024, the project features a rich array of activities in phases, including train-the-trainer workshop, community dance workshop and documentary production. In May, the project wraps up with documentary screening, dance showcase and sharing at Tai Kwun.
Phase 1 - Train the Trainer Workshop
To provide teaching strategies and methods for teaching artists, introducing inclusive dance teaching techniques and guidance skills. It includes adapting to participants with different abilities and needs, and helping teaching artists effectively guide participants in exploring body movements and creativity.
Phase 2 - Community Dance Workshop
To create a safe and inclusive environment for participants to explore creative rhythms through improvisation, spatial orientation exercises, and collaborative activities. This helps enhance their body awareness, improve coordination and it aims to overcome feelings of insecurity and isolation due to visual impairment, providing a rich and inclusive artistic experience.
Phase 3 - Showcase and Sharing at Tai Kwun
We invite everyone to witness the journey of the project and the transformative experiences of the participants, while also gaining insights from the esteemed guests, together building an diverse and Inclusive Community.
